Amideast and Boeing launch the Environmental Education for Youth Program in Morocco

Rabat, Morocco, March 21, 2023 — Amideast and Boeing are pleased to announce the launch of an innovative STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and training program for Moroccan youth. The new program aims to deepen awareness of environmental sustainability among young people and provide them with skills they will need to address these challenges.

Sixty youth, ages 18–22, from Rabat’s Yaccoub Mansour neighborhood will participate in the Environmental Education for Youth Program beginning this spring. Through immersion in activities that develop skills in STEM fields as well as the integration of problem-based learning focused on local environmental challenges, students will break down complex ideas, increase their knowledge about and appreciation for the environment, and take actions to further help strengthen their communities.

The program will also raise students’ awareness of career opportunities in STEM through classroom presentations as well as field trips to sites where the environmental challenges are addressed through STEM-based solutions.

Today’s launch took place at the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication’s Youth House Nour in Yaccoub Mansour, a central suburb of Rabat, where the program will also be hosted over the next four months. The ceremony was attended by Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa and Central Asia president Kuljit Ghata-Aura, U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar, and Minister Bensaid of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco. Amideast, Boeing and the Ministry signed a convention to mark this expanded partnership.

"The programs developed by Amideast and Boeing provide a great opportunity to prepare young people for exciting careers in the aerospace industry, which is crucial for the future growth of the industry. As we are all experiencing the global challenge of climate change, our sector strives for innovation and sustainable development. Through programs like these, we can inspire and equip the next generation of aerospace professionals to drive progress and create a brighter future for all" said Kuljit Ghata-Aura, president of Boeing Middle East, Türkiye, Africa and Central Asia.

Minister Bensaid said: “I am very pleased to have Boeing – a global company – contributing to youth skills development in Morocco. The particular focus on STEM skills and teaching youth how to better engage in STEM-based solutions can have a positive impact on youth employment, and the local environment.”

Jennifer Smith, Amideast’s regional director for workforce and entrepreneurship, added: “We are delighted to expand our regional partnership with Boeing to offer this STEM-based program for youth in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. This program draws on local community support while also advancing the Moroccan government’s national youth development priorities.”
